I currently own a Fender Squier modified 70's jazz bass. (Bass Player Mag's Reader's choice award for best value under $300). Fender B-Dec30 amp. My next step up gear will be a Fender Jazz bass standard with a 200 watt Acoustic or Ampeg brand combo amp.

I am currently learning how to write music. I do like the blues and classic rock. I am studying and listening alot to Gary Moore and Robben Ford and the Blue Line and other old favorites.I also listen to Buddy Guy, Eric Clapton and Rush.

I have come to the conclusion that I will dedicate myself to playing bass, and writing w/acoustic guitar with lessons and clinics and retreats for a foundation, being that I do not have the time or money for a formal education. Hey, If Billy Sheehan can do it!, why not me?

I am a 49 year old rock-n-roll fan. I grew up listening to Motown, CCR, Little Richard, Bob Seger, and various other 60's and 70's groups. I work as a Live Nursery Specialist at Lowes for the past 9 years. I decided to get a hobby, I was always doing air guitar (in private), but for some strange reason when I walked into Guitar Center, I found myself in the bass Rumble Room. I started to take up bass. I am taking lessons from a teacher who is introducing me to the blues. Hopefully by age 50, I'll have my first gig!!

Getty Lee, Roscoe Beck, John Paul Jones, bassist for Gary Moore, John Entwhistle, my teacher (ken).

Hey Bluesman49,

Welcome to the community! I hope you are getting settled in! If you need some tips on how to get around the site, I have a blog to that effect. Please feel free to give it a read!

Also, please share our site address with your teacher(Ken). He may want to be listed in the directory and get more students there in Michigan!

Anyway, have fun and keep up the efforts to learn. Don't forget to read our magazine as there is a lot of good info there (Next issue goes up tomorrow!)!

Best,

Raul
