The Rhythm Road: American Music Abroad. JALC will acceptband applications for the 2009-2010 program until August 10, 2009. Americanmusic groups from throughout the United States specializing in jazz, urban/hiphop and other American roots music including bluegrass, blues, Cajun, country,gospel and zydeco are invited to apply for the opportunity to travel abroad,particularly to countries not frequently visited by American musicians, toincrease cross-cultural understanding.
Coca-Colaat Frederick P. Rose Hall, home of Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York, and atThe National Geographic Society in Washington, D.C. Over the past fouryears, 108 musicians from 28 ensembles will have toured with the program,visiting 97 countries on 5 continents.
Applications aredue August 10, 2009. If selected, 2009-2010 ensembles are invited tolive auditions by September 23, 2009. New York City applications take placefrom October 23-25, while auditions in a second TBA city take place fromOctober 27-29. The Rhythm Road finalistensembles for 2009-10 tours will be announced on November 6, 2009, andensembles will perform domestically and embark on international tours fromMarch to December 2010.
