While this group is dedicated to the analysis of bass movement within all Latin music genres, there is an underlying emphasis on clave-based concepts and interpretation. The language barrier (99% of the lyrics are in Spanish) has kept most of the contemporary material under the radar for the major bass publications, which are based in the US and Britain. With its African roots however, Latin music is a real treasure for instrumentalists in the lower frequency ranges, as they are much more melodic when compared to their roles in Western music.
Another objective of this forum is to answer individual questions that arise from the latin music series written by
Mike Lazarus (
latinpulsemusic). Related questions and remarks are welcome. Please keep the discussion focused on the bass approach to Latin music and away from gear and fan club type dialogue. Your attention is appreciated. Mike is currently the advanced bass instructor at Sylvan Music in Santa Cruz, California.
